Abstract

Solar air heating system is a solar thermal technology in which the energy from the sun isolation is captured by an absorbing medium and used to heat air. Solar air system considers as a renewable energy heating technology which is used to heat or condition air for buildings or process heat applications. It is typically the most cost-effective out of all the solar technologies, especially in commercial and industrial applications. The aim of this study is to investigate the performance of the prototype solar air collector. In this study as a solar air heating system is demonstrated by testing an experimental rig at Erbil Technical Engineering College. The experimental study measures and calculates, the inlet and outlet temperature of the air from the ducted solar collector at variable speed every (15-30 minutes). The study calculates the useful heat gains and the performance of coefficient (COP). The results showed that the supply air temperature from the solar air heating system can specify up to 28.5 oC during the test with temperature difference of 19.5 oC. While the COP of the system found as 7.34. Also, the results showed that the maximum useful heat energy was 1131 W and the solar fraction of 0.79. Therefore, this study will provide a guide for the future work in the solar air system, since this system considered as a renewable energy achievement specially in reducing heating bills, the CO2 emission and improving the quality of air inside the condition area (ventilation process).
